Essential Oils for PMS

Irritability, anxiety, fatigue, bloating, breast tenderness, headaches, moodiness and cramping are all not-so-lovely symptoms of premenstrual syndrome. If you are reading this, I assume that you are one of the many women who can relate to one or more of these unfortunate monthly occurrences.

Before we touch on how to address these symptoms naturally, let’s talk about why they happen. Hormones play a major role in PMS as well as stress which can enhance the symptoms even more. Some studies have shown that vitamin and mineral deficiencies such as Calcium and Magnesium have been linked to PMS as well. With that said, diet also contributes largely to our deficiencies and PMS in general. Caffeine from chocolate and beverages is also thought to enhance PMS symptoms, so ladies fight that food craving and avoid those tasty treats for a few days before you menstruate.
Alright now for the good stuff…

Essential Oils for Insomnia

Essential Oils for Insomnia

Join me for an educational webinar on essential oils Sunday, June 29th at 8:30 pm EDT: Essential Oils 101: Everything You Need to Know

According to the National Institute of Health, “insomnia is defined by the presence of an individual’s report of difficulty with sleep.”

Sleep deprivation seems to be becoming more and more common in today’s world. People have difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or even both. With our fast-paced lifestyles and jam packed agendas, it is no wonder that restful nights are few and far between. Insomnia can be triggered by stress, medications, drug/alcohol use, anxiety, and depression. Lack of sleep can have many serious negative effects on a person’s physical, social, and emotional health.

Why avoid prescription medications?

Typically people who talk to a health care professional are prescribed a medication to provide some relief to their insomnia, but these are not always the best options available.

There are many prescribed medications for insomnia on the market to choose from due to the increasing demand of a solution for a restful night’s sleep. Ambien, Lunesta, Sonata, and Rozerem are a few names that you might recognize because they are the most commonly prescribed medications for chronic insomnia.

With these sleep inducing medications comes a wide array of negative side effects that can have an even more harmful impact on your health than the insomnia alone. Some common side effects of these medications include: drowsiness, dizziness, feeling tired, feeling drugged, irregular heartbeat, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, loss of coordination, trouble breathing, and last, but certainly not least the risk of becoming addicted to or overdosing on these not-so-wonderful drugs.

So where do those insomniacs turn when they run out of sheep to count and the safety and efficacy of prescription drugs come into play?

Essential Oils for Insomnia

You will find when using essential oils that some oils make work better for you than others based on the interaction is has with your unique biological chemistry.

When using these oils for insomnia, you can apply 1-2 drops topically on the feet, back, or neck. Skin sensitivity is important when using essential oils topically so be sure to follow the label to know if it can be applied with or without dilution.

You can also diffuse any of these oils or a combination of the oils throughout the night to soothe and relax your body and promote healthy sleeping habits.

Quality is key!

When using essential oils as a form of natural medicine, the purity of the oil plays a key role in the potency and overall health benefit that you will get from using the essential oil. To learn more about why purity read: Essential Oils: Why Purity Is Important
